“My darling girl, when are you going to realize that being normal is not necessarily a virtue? It rather denotes a lack of courage.” – Aunt Frances
I believe sexual diversity is a good thing and consider all forms of consensual intimacy something to be encouraged. I was raised by wonderful parents who never encouraged me to be anything but myself and I had no problem accepting who I am, with all my ‘differentness’ and ‘otherness’.
As a psychologist I work with adult individuals and couples with various psychological and sexual problems. I have extensive experience in the diagnosis and treatment of psychological disorders, and have special expertise working with sexual minority groups, such as BDSM’ers, LGBT, non-monogamous people and sex workers. I am an educator on sexual diversity for psychologists and sexologists in the Netherlands. For my own communities I host meetings and discussion groups on kink and non-monogamy. I’m a sex-positive human rights activist and I’ve have been blogging since 2009. In November 2014 I published a book on BDSM with co-author Natya Bouman, called ‘SM in het echt’ (‘SM in real life’).
I completed my Masters degree in clinical psychology (Master GZP) in Nijmegen, the Netherlands. Besides my education as a cognitive-behavioural therapist I have received training in EMDR and sex counselling. I am a member of the Dutch Association of Psychologists (NIP). My lectures on BDSM have been accredited by the Dutch Sexology Organisation. Together with the Sexology Practice and in collaboration with the Elisabeth Hospital I organised the ‘Sexology in Practice’ conference in Tilburg. At the 2015 European Society for Sexual Medicine Conference in Copenhagen I was speaker on Paraphilias and BDSM in sexual medicine. I am a member of The International Committee on the Rights of Sex Workers in Europe (ICRSE).
As an international speaker on sexual diversity I have given lectures at various universities, conferences for healthcare professionals, organisations for sexual minority groups and other locations. Please contact me if you would like to invite me as speaker for your event.
Although providing education about sexual diversity for professionals is one of my favourite things to do, I’m most passionate about connecting with the communities themselves. I’m very happy to accommodate your group’s limited budget so please don’t hesitate to contact me if your kinky club, transgender group or poly-meetup is hosting an event.
